Crash victim was high school junior

PAGELAND, S.C. -- Chesterfield County authorities have identified the victim of a fatal single-vehicle car crash Tuesday night as Aliscia Thomas, a 16-year-old from Pageland.

Thomas, a junior at Pageland Central High School, was killed when the 1996 Toyota in which she was riding went off Tory Road south of Pageland and hit a tree about 8:30 p.m. The driver of the car, identified by the S.C. Highway Patrol as Elonte’a Meadows, 18, was injured and remained hospitalized Thursday at CMC-Monroe.

Troopers say Meadows apparently lost control of the vehicle, which went off the left side of the road. Meadows then over-corrected, and the car veered off the right side of the road before slamming into a tree.

Authorities say the two were returning from a high school basketball game.

Funeral services tentatively are scheduled for Sunday afternoon at Pageland Central High School.
