Approximately 50 students each at Providence and Independence high schools are scheduled to travel to Washington, D.C., by bus to attend President Barack Obama's inauguration ceremony Jan. 21.
Providence teacher Anne McCanless said she's taking 10th- to 12-graders who have signed up and paid their fee. It's her second inauguration to attend and take students; she said Independence teacher George Walker has made the trip many times.
She said students will visit the monuments and tour the D.C. area when they arrive on Jan. 19, and visit some museums on the 20th. Although Obama will be sworn in privately on the traditional date of Jan. 20, the public ceremony will be on the 21st, because the 20th falls on a Sunday this January.
