The winner: I am forcing narcissus bulbs in a glass bowl with marbles. However, I had to keep tilting the bowl to determine the water level. So I thought why not put food coloring in the water? Now I can see the water level at a glance. And who knows, my white flowers may turn out to be pink. Dorothy Lancaster, Mint Hill

Bamboo to the rescue

When I couldn’t find my metal turkey skewers to close the neck cavity of my turkey after I had finished stuffing it, I used bamboo skewers instead. Now I use them all the time because they are long and I can cut them to length as the need fits. Then I just toss them when I am finished. Kris Solow, Charlotte

Cure for stinky shoes

Got smelly sneakers? Buy a bottle of antiseptic mouthwash (amber colored, I got mine at a dollar store). Wet a cloth with the mouthwash, then rub inside of sneakers or shoes. It will kill odor instantly.
