N.C. among nation’s leaders in Christmas trees and poinsettias

North Carolina has more than 5 million Christmas trees harvested each year – which accounted for $75 million in 2011’s farm income – and the state is second in the nation in holiday tree production.

State Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler discussed seasonal greenery this past week with Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison for the weekly “Today’s Topic” segment.

North Carolina is also the second-largest producer of poinsettias in the U.S., growing more than 4.4 million – and generating $17.6 million – in 2011. For details and to find fresh greenery locally: www.ncfarmfresh.com.
