Work with horses: Volunteers are needed at Wings of Eagles Therapeutic Horseback Riding Ranch, which serves special needs children and adults. The winter session runs Jan.7-Feb. 28. Volunteer training will be 9 a.m.-noon, Jan. 5 at 4800 Faith Trails Road, Concord. Volunteer opportunities available Mondays-Thursdays. Volunteers can work one hour per week or more. Department of Transportation this summer is scheduled to begin widening Interstate 85 from N.C. 73 to Lane Street. NCDOT officials recently gathered input on the $204 million plan from residents of Cabarrus and Rowan. The state plans to widen I-85 from four to eight lanes to reduce traffic congestion. Public comments about the project will be accepted through Dec. 14.
