Motorcyclist dies in NW Charlotte wreck

More Information

A 55-year-old motorcyclist from Gaston County was killed Friday morning in a collision with a vehicle driven by a 16-year-old girl in northwest Charlotte.

Killed in the wreck, which occurred shortly before 6:45 a.m. on Mount Holly-Huntersville Road at Overlook Mountain Drive, was Willis Larry Hill, of Stanley.

Police say Hill was driving a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle eastbound on Mount Holly-Huntersville Road, a short distance east of Brookshire Boulevard, when he collided with a 2006 Toyota Rav4. Investigators say the driver of the SUV was pulling out of Overlook Mountain Drive and attempting to turn east on Mount Holly-Huntersville Road.

Police say the Toyota turned into the path of the motorcycle, and Hill’s vehicle slammed into the side of the SUV.

Hill was thrown from the motorcycle and rushed by Medic to Carolinas Medical Center. He died a short time later of his injuries.

Police have not released the name of the SUV’s driver but say she has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle. An investigation into the collision is continuing. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call detectives at 704-432-2169, or leave information with Crime Stoppers, 704-334-1600.
