The N.C. Department of Transportation says a Charlotte-based contractor can start work at any time on 19 miles of resurfacing work and other improvements on Mecklenburg County roads.
Ferebee Corporation has been awarded a $6 million contract to mill, resurface and rebuild shoulders on 16 sections of roadways. The work can start at any time and must be completed by next June 30.
Work can be done at any time of day, except 6-9 a.m. and 4-8 p.m. Some weekend work is possible.
The projects are:
-- South Tryon Street; 3.4 miles, from Remount Road to Morehead State, and from Remount Road to I-77.
-- Monroe Road; 3 miles, from Wendover Road to Sharon Amity Road, and from Wendover Road to Ranier Road.
-- West Boulevard; 2.6 miles, from I-77 to South Tryon Street, and from the Billy Graham Parkway to Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.
-- Wendover Road; 2.6 miles, from Monroe Road to Sharon Road.
-- Walkers Ferry Road; 1.4 miles, from the I-485 overpass to Windy Grove Road.
-- Byrum Drive; 1.2 miles, from Steele Creek Road to Yorkmont Road.
-- Nevada Boulevard; 1.2 miles, from South Tryon Street to the end of state maintenance.
-- Graham Street; 1.1 miles, from the railroad bridge deck to Mint Street.
-- Yorkmont Road; 1 mile, from Byrum Drive to West Boulevard, and from Byrum Drive to Tyvola Road.
-- Queens Road; 0.8 mile, from South Kings Drive to Providence Road.
-- Shopton Road West; 0.4 mile, from Rock Island Road to the end of curb and gutter.
-- Sharon Road; 0.3 mile, from Wendover Road to Runnymede Lane.
