Winter courses: DavidsonLearns will offer five courses starting the second week in January, each lasting 90 to 120 minutes. Enrollment for the courses is currently open. Offerings include: “Celebrating the art and life of Romare Bearden”; “Magical realism in literature;” “Archaeology 101;” “Exploring the pipe organ and its music” and “Christian scripture and the Jews: Critical issues for Jewish-Christian relations today.”Course schedules and fees vary. Camp is open to students in kindergarten through fifth grade, and the Waymer Center will be open 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Camp dates are Dec. 21, 26-28 and Dec. 31. Field trips include movies at Northlake, bowling at Northcross, roller skating, Ray’s Splash Pad and Discovery Place. Cost per day is $25 for residents, $35 for nonresidents. Details: 704-766-2220.
Cornelius Functional XT: The Cornelius PARC Department is offering a new cardio fitness class that focuses on weight loss, toning and injury prevention in two sessions starting in January. Functional XT – a combination of high-intensity kickboxing and plyometrics – will have weeknight classes 7:35-8:35 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays starting Jan. 8 through Feb. 14. Weekend classes will meet 10:15-11:15 a.m. Saturdays Jan. 12 through Feb. 16.All classes will be held at Bailey Road Recreation Center, 11900 Bailey Road. Weekday classes will be $70 for residents, $80 for nonresidents; weekend classes will be $40 for residents, $48 for nonresidents.
