Waxhaw house fire cause undetermined

The Union County fire marshal’s office said Monday it has been unable to determine exactly what caused the fire that destroyed a house late last month in a Waxhaw neighborhood.

Fire Marshal Jon Williams said investigators were able to eliminate several possible causes, but he added, “We are unable to eliminate them all. At this point, the fire cause is undetermined in nature.”

The fire was spotted by a Waxhaw police officer on patrol about 3:30 a.m. Nov. 29, in the 8000 block of Battersea Court, in the Quellin subdivision.

Williams said the fire started in the rear of the house, in and around the back wall and the deck.

“We do not have any evidence to substantiate a theory that the fire was intentionally set,” he added.

Williams said damage is estimated at $300,000.

The home’s residents were vacationing in Florida at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
