Jeremy Batchelor, an administrator in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ east zone, was named principal of James Martin Middle School on Tuesday.
Batchelor was a high school principal in Elizabethtown before coming to CMS earlier this year. Ayinde Rudolph, who was Martin’s principal since 2009, left in September to work for an education group in Buffalo, N.Y.
Also Tuesday, Superintendent Heath Morrison announced he’s promoting Stoney Creek Elementary Principal Gina Smith to be the assistant superintendent in charge of special education. Jane Rhyne, who has held that job since 2001, retires in January.
Morrison also appointed three new executive directors to work in human resources as part of his restructuring of that department. Consultants’ studies done this fall found major problems with the department’s ability to recruit teachers and support schools. Morrison replaced the chief HR officer and is adding several posts to focus on weak spots.
