Pedestrian struck on Monroe Road

A woman was in the hospital Tuesday night, being rushed into surgery for a head injury after a vehicle struck her at 8430 Monroe Road in Charlotte, police said.

The woman was walking across the road in a crosswalk when the car struck her, Sgt. David Sloan said.

Authorities had the road shut down around 10:30 p.m. as they investigated the crash, Sloan said. Police had few details about what happened, but Sloan said that officers had determined the driver of the vehicle was not drinking at the time of the crash. Investigators are still looking into whether the driver was speeding. If not, investigators probably won’t criminally charge the driver, Sloan said.

Medic officials said the woman’s injuries were life-threatening. Police had not released the identities of the victim and the driver late Tuesday night.
