As you may know, Robert and I started dating because we’re gamers. On what Robert considers to be our first date, I went to his house and played “Call of Duty” with him. He won, but we had a great time battling it out and competing for the winner’s spot. Additionally, when I was in college, we used to play “Halo” online so that we didn’t feel so far apart. I’ll admit that we haven’t played a lot lately, but when we do get online, we always have a good time.

I really feel that video games are great for couples. It’s a good way to unwind and a little competition can be fun. After all, what’s better than a risqué bet to accompany the battle for that number one spot?

If you haven’t played a video game with the hubs before, there are certain games that are perfect for enjoying with your player two. Here are just some of the titles that Robert and I have particularly enjoyed playing together.

The “Halo” games

In “Halo,” you’re taking part in a war between the human race and aliens. We’ve played the campaign, but also the online matches. It was fun to team up, ride around on the Warthogs (a vehicle, not the animal), and attack the opposing team. If you’re looking to play a shooter game, I’d recommend this over “Call of Duty.” Not that I’m not a fan of “Call of Duty” (actually, I love it), but “Halo” is more user-friendly for first time gamers.

“Left for Dead”

As a survivor of the zombie apocalypse, you and your spouse battle through different campaigns attacking hoards of zombies. Even if you aren’t a strong gamer, like me, you can shoot blindly in front of you and do well.

The Lego series

The Lego games are geared more towards children, but if you’re a big kid you’ll love playing with animated Legos. The best part is that Lego uses some of the greatest storylines, such as “Star Wars” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.” So not only are you playing with Legos, your playing through some well-loved stories. P.S. Jack Sparrow is just as lovable as a Lego character as he is on screen.

“New Super Mario Brothers Wii”

I am sure we have all played Mario at least once during our childhood. It’s a classic and so much fun even as adults. The New Super Mario Brothers for the Wii follows the same game play as the originals, but with some more interactive controls. Better yet, the four player co-op feature makes it perfect for a double date night.

“Words with Friends”

Okay, this is technically not a video game, but it is fun and addictive! If you haven’t played before, it’s basically online “Scrabble.” Robert and I just downloaded it to our phones and we’ve played every night. I thought that since I had an English degree, I was guaranteed to win. Boy was I wrong, but at least my chances of winning are greater than with “Halo” and “Call of Duty”!
