A Marion man is charged with murder after authorities say he forced his way into a home and fatally shot a man who was inside. Police say the shooting appears to be domestic-related.

The shooting was reported just before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of Bethel Street in Morganton.

Police said a man, whom they identified as 36-year-old Corey Dewayne Grant, entered the home and began shooting. Brian Marcel Burnette was struck and died from his injuries, police said in a news release.

Authorities said Grant fled the scene in a vehicle but was later found walking on Interstate 40. He was taken in for questioning and is currently being held without bond in the Burke-Catawba Detention Facility. Police said Grant has previously been arrested and convicted on felony drug charges and burglaries.

Police said the Wednesday shooting remains under investigation.
