Christmas

McAdenville Yule Log Ceremony and Parade

5:30 p.m. Friday. Downtown McAdenville. mcadenville-christmastown.com.

The town famous for its Christmas lights display also boasts an unusual festival. Residents and visitors follow the yule log as its pulled by children on a sled through town to Legacy Park. The log is placed into an open fireplace, ignited, and the audience is invited to sing Christmas carols. Santa will visit, and the first 1,000 visitors will get free hot chocolate and kettle corn.

Excerpts from the ‘Nutcracker’

11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday. SouthPark mall. charlottecityballet.org.

Charlotte City Ballet Company presents two free “Nutcracker” performances in the mall court near Belk, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. This pre-professional ballet company celebrated its 25th anniversary last year.

Jazz

Jazz Arts Initiative’s Youth Winter Concert

3 p.m. Sunday. Providence Presbyterian Church, 10140 Providence Church Lane. thejazzarts.org.

Three student ensembles will perform seasonal songs, as well as classic jazz numbers.

Movie

Cinematic Christmas

5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Neighborhood Theatre, 511 East 36th St.

“A Christmas Story” is the final installment in this series of free holiday movies. The Neighborhood Theatre bar will be open for drinks, snacks and popcorn. Local food trucks will serve dinner food.

Santa’s Wonderland

Bass Pro Shops has transformed itself into a winter wonderland with free games, activities and crafts for kids, as well as free 4-by-6-inch pictures with Santa.
