Lake Norman Big Band: The 19 member band will perform for free from 7 to 9 p.m. Dec. 17 at George Pappas’ Victory Lanes, 125 Morlake Drive, off Bluefield Road. www.thelakenormanbigband.org.

Coffee chat: Cornelius Commissioner John Bradford will hold his monthly Coffee Chat from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Dec. 17 at Acropolis Restaurant, 20659 Catawba Ave. Cornelius economic development consultant Don Harrow will discuss his vision and strategy in the new post.

Wiener Race results: The Mooresville Downtown Commission’s 2012 Downtown Mooresville Wiener Race raised $2,000 for Friends of the Animals, which plans to build a Pet Education and Adoption Center at the Langtree at the Lake mixed-used community at Interstate 77 Exit 31.

Cardio fitness class: The Cornelius PARC Department will host Functional XT cardio fitness classes in January and February at Bailey Road Recreation Center, 11900 Bailey Road (Bailey Middle School).
