10 Questions: Carolina Panthers RB Mike Tolbert

The Observer asks 10 questions of Panthers running back Mike Tolbert, who spent his first four seasons with the San Diego Chargers, who are Sunday’s opponent:

Q. Special week for you?

Definitely. A lot of emotion when I left, but I’m excited to get back and just play football. See all those guys. But definitely try to get the win.

Q. Highlights from your time out there?

The main one, I would say, my second year we ended up going 13-3 and I caught a game-winning touchdown against the Redskins.

Q. Did your dancing start out there or was it at Coastal Carolina?

I’ve always been a dancer. I danced in college. I won a couple dance contests in college. I think getting to the NFL and being able to make plays and let it translate where it can be legal on the field is something that I really enjoy.

Q. What kind of dance contests?

It was a Midnight Madness-type thing for the basketball team, and they had a dance contest. And everybody knew I could dance. They were like, “Hey, go out there.” And I went out there and won.

Q. What’s your specialty?

Dancing? I don’t know. I’ve got a lot of rhythm. So I can pretty much do anything.

Q. Do you still have a house in San Diego?

Yeah. I bought my house out there. My wife’s from San Diego. Her family’s still out there. So I still have a house there. That’s where I train. That’s where I do a lot of my boxing work. Home is California right now.

Q. Any Mexican or seafood places that you’ll hit?

Nah, I’m allergic to seafood so I try to stay away from all that stuff. I try to eat basic – chicken, beans. I’m not really into Mexican food. So I stay to the basics.

Q. What’s your favorite part of the city?

I like taking my wife and my daughter down to Pacific Beach. It’s a younger crowd, like myself. It’s still very beach-y and vacation-y. So I like going down to Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, those type of places.

Q. How old is your daughter (Mikeala)?

She’s 1. She likes to play in the sand. She hasn’t tried to eat it, yet, which I’m glad.
