LAKE WYLIE Lake Wylie was rocking with the glow of the Christmas spirit Saturday evening as the Lake Wylie Chamber of Commerce’s Lights on the Lake Holiday Boat Parade launched with more than 15 boats from T-Bones on the Lake docks.
Among the hundreds of parade watchers lining the shoreline were about 20 members of the River Hills Yacht Club, who turned the event into “tailgate” time with Bojangles and other bite-sized food, as well as a small fire pit.
“Last year we were in the middle of the parking lot. But this year, we’re more organized and wanted a good spot,” said Terry Maher.
“Next year, we want to do events more and add things like cornhole,” said Dale Bohler of Lake Wylie.
Maher’s husband, Joe, while looking at the docked boats, said, “It takes a lot to pull this together.
“It’s a neat holiday thing.”
The boaters really decked out their bows this year, but only three could be named winners.
First place went to many time winner Capt. Brad Thomas of Belmont with his “Rock ‘n’ Roll Christmas” theme.
“This is Brad’s favorite night of the year,” said wife Shannon Thomas.
“He loves all things boat, all things water.”
She also gave props to Michael Calvert, who helped to plan and decorate the boat.
He also choreographed the lights to the music, a key part of this year’s theme.
“They’re a team,” Shannon Thomas said.
Second place want to Capt. Russell Partin of Lake Wylie and his family for their “Rudolph pulling sleigh/Frosty” theme.
First-time boat entry Capt. Jack Tomosovich of Tega Cay snatched third for “Pirate Christmas.”
