Interim York County manager named

YORK The York County Council appointed assistant county manager Anna Moore as interim county manager starting Jan. 11. County Manager Jim Baker is leaving York County to take a job in Chesapeake, Va.

The council also voted Monday to interview firms that could be hired to search for Baker’s successor. Council members might still choose to conduct the process without paying for outside help.

The council doesn’t need to make any decision on hiring a new county manager until newly elected council members start their terms next month, Councilman Curwood Chappell said.

Chappell tried to stall the vote, causing enough of a stir that Chairman Britt Blackwell said, “I’m about to lose my cool with you, Curwood.”

Discussion stopped at Blackwell’s request. Chappell voted against seeking bids from search firms before he walked out of the meeting and did not return.
