Recycling expands in unincorporated Cabarrus

Customers should get new recycling carts this week

Cabarrus County will offer expanded recycling to Republic Services waste collection customers in unincorporated areas of the county.

Customers’ blue 18-gallon recycling bins should be replaced this week with new 96-gallon recycling carts, which are the same size as their garbage carts.

Customers should begin rolling the new recycling carts to the curb starting Dec. 31, depending on their designated collection date.

Recyclable materials placed in the 96-gallon recycling carts will be collected every other week, on the same day as customers’ schedule day for garbage pickup.

On recycling day, residents should place recycling carts at the curb the same time they place the garbage carts.

Customers who wish to return their old 18-gallon bins can leave them on the curb for collection during the week of Dec. 31. Customers have the option of keeping the 18-gallon bins, but Republic Services will not collect recyclables in the smaller bins after Dec. 31.

Republic Services will operate a hotline for customers through Jan. 4. For questions specifically related to recycling, call 704-262-6017.

For general information about Cabarrus County’s residential recycling program, call 704-920-3278 or visit www.cabarruscounty.us/sustainability. Staff reports
