Two young children were found safe Thursday morning after their father led police on a two-state chase that ended in southern Union County, authorities say.

Dennis Matthew Penny II, 37, was taken into custody after law enforcement officials from two states forced him to stop on Tirzah Church Road, east of Waxhaw. That was a few miles north of the Chesterfield County line, where, sheriff’s deputies say, he abducted his two children earlier in the morning.

The children -- Dennis Matthew Penny III, 5, and Grace Elizabeth Penny, 2 -- were found with their father. They were not hurt, authorities say.

The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office had issued an Amber Alert for the children after they were allegedly abducted by their father about 7:30 a.m. Thursday from a residence near Mount Croghan, between Pageland and Chesterfield.

The sheriff’s office issued a description of the children, their father, and the white GMC Sierra truck he was driving. Dennis Penny II was driving that truck when he was spotted about 11:30 a.m. in northern Chesterfield County. That set off a police pursuit which ended a short time later in Union County, authorities say
