She Said Yes! Emily & Scott

Crowders Mountain State Park was a place that formed the very foundation of our relationship. Early on, it was a staple for us on countless nights and weekends. When I first met Emily, I was training to climb the highest summit in the contiguous U.S. Mt. Whitney was always a dream for me and Emily never once stood in the way of my aspirations.

On the day of the proposal, I convinced Emily that we should meet at Crowders Mountain for a midafternoon hike. We were both en route when it began to rain; not just a little rain, but the kind no one in their right mind would go hiking in. Time for plan B! I quickly called some close friends and they agreed to recommend a wine bar after dinner—the wine bar where Emily and I had our first date.

After dinner we all made our way to the establishment, and I had a strange feeling of calm come over me. Right then I knew I was ready to spend the rest of my life with Emily, and there I was, in the parking lot where I had first laid eyes on her. I got down on one knee and told her she was the only person I wanted to be with for the rest of my life. I reached into my back pocket and pulled out the ring. She said yes! Life, much like my initial proposal plan, will not always go as planned. But as long as we have each other, there’s nothing we can’t overcome.

Emily and Scott were married December 1, 2012
