High school basketball roundup: Clover girls cruise to victory

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Clover 72, Indian Land 29

The Blue Eagles got 14 points from Ryehia Robbins and 12 from Lauren Richardson and routed Indian Land in the opening round of the inaugural Clover Optimist Club Tournament.

Clover led 25-0 after one period and never looked back. Richardson complemented her offensive performance with 6 rebounds and 5 blocked shots on the defensive side of the ball.

Clover will play Eau Claire at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Scott County 52, Nation Ford 43

Scott County from Kentucky toppled Nation Ford 52-43 in the first round of the Shootout by the Sea Tournament.

Scott County led 23-20 at halftime, but they broke open the close game late in the final period.

Taylor Yarborough led the Nation Ford effort with 26 points before fouling out.

The Falcons got double figure scoring from Riley Hilton and Carson Smith and beat Sumter in the opening round of the Shootout by the Sea Tournament.

Nation Ford held a 5-point cushion at intermission and held on for the victory, which improved it to 5-4 on the season.

CLOVER OPTIMIST TOURNAMENT

The opening day of the inaugural Clover Optimist Tournament saw four girls’ and boys’ team advance in the winner’s bracket with action in both Clover gymnasiums.

In the girls’ division Blacksburg beat Spartanburg Christian and Seneca won over Cuthbertson. Clover was a winner in their opening round game over Indian Land, while Eau Claire toppled Brisbane (Australia).

In the boys’ division Indian Land got by Clover, while Blacksburg was a winner over Chesterfield. In other action, Charlotte Christian beat York and Providence Day defeated Broome.

The schedule for Friday is as follows:

3 p.m. - Blacksburg vs. Seneca

3 p.m. - Spartanburg Christian vs. Cuthbertson

6 p.m. - Clover vs. Eau Claire

6 p.m. - Indian Land vs. Brisbane (Australia)
