Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say they dont suspect foul play after the body of a 27-year-old woman was found in a creek across from Carolinas Medical Center.
Police were called to the intersection of Harding Place and East Morehead Street around 10:50 p.m. Thursday after someone called to say there was a woman in the water who was not breathing.
Officers who responded to the scene found a woman who was not responsive on the side of the creek bed.
The victim, who was identified in a police report as Ashley Brook Ashcroft-Billings, was pronounced dead at the scene by Medic.
The woman was apparently wearing a medical bracelet when she was found, police said. But a spokesman for Carolinas HealthCare System said Friday that the hospital did not have Ashcroft-Billings listed in the patient directory.
A man who said Ashcroft-Billings was his sister declined comment on Friday.
Police said an autopsy will be conducted to determine exactly how Ashcroft-Billings died.
The police report classified the case as a sudden/natural death investigation.
