Myers Park

KinderMourn 5K: More than 150 runners participated in the Dec. 15 KinderMourn 5K Race in honor of the late Myers Park High School student David Shannon. The race raised nearly $5,000 for the Charlotte organization that helps children deal with the loss of a parent and parents deal with the loss of a child.


Matthews

Pancake fundraiser: Butler High School’s Performing Arts Department will have a flapjack fundraiser from 8-10 a.m. Jan. 5 at Applebee’s restaurant at 9616 E. Independence Blvd. in Matthews to raise funds for a spring musical in February. Tickets are $7 per person. Details: 704-249-8885.


New clerk: Lori Canapinno, the town’s deputy clerk, will assume the role of town clerk. Canapinno joined the town in 2008 as a zoning technician/deputy town clerk. She is a graduate of Charter Oak State College and a native of Connecticut. Before joining the town of Matthews, she worked for the town of Orange, Conn., for seven years, including serving as the municipal assessor.


Stonecrest

Blood drive: The Community Blood Center of the Carolinas January blood drive will be from 3-7 p.m. Jan. 12 at Stonecrest Community Drive, 7825 Rea Road in Charlotte.


Pineville

100 miles: Walk, run, or bike 100 miles in 100 days Jan. 1-April 10. This 100-day event is Pineville Parks and Recreation New Year’s Resolution program to promote active living.

Start tracking your miles with the paper log provided by Active Ally. Print a registration form at www.pineville100miler.com. You can also use a fitness-tracking application.

Participants will receive emails and blog posts with updates, walking/running routes and motivation.
