SwimMAC Carolina won USA Swimming’s 2013 Club Excellence Award for the second year in a row.

The club earned the award, which honors the top 18-and-under swim club in the country, after winning two Junior National Championships this year.

“I can speak for the entire SwimMAC community when I say we are thrilled to be named the top 18-and-under club in the country for the second consecutive year,” said CEO and Director of Coaching David Marsh in a release. “This award is a testament to our methods of training, our dedicated coaches and staff members and of course, our group of student-athletes and parents who believe in what SwimMAC does.”

SwimMAC won the 2013 title with 49,432 points, nearly 10,000 more than second-place North Baltimore Aquatic Club (39,214).

Wells Fargo Cup

Two south Charlotte athletic programs are second in the Wells Fargo Cup standings after the fall season.

The Wells Fargo Cup, sponsored by Wells Fargo and the N.C. High School Athletic Association, recognizes the high schools that achieve the best overall athletic performance in each of the state’s four classifications. Points are awarded to the top eight teams from each sport’s classification.

Ardrey Kell is ranked second in the 4A classification, five points behind Cary Green Hope. The Knights won state championships in girls’ golf and volleyball.

Providence High is No. 6 in 4A, Myers Park is ninth and Butler is 15th.

Charlotte Catholic is second in the 3A class, 82.5 points behind Raleigh Cardinal Gibbons. The Cougars won a state championship in girls’ dual-team tennis and had a runner-up performance in football.
