DURHAM Fire department investigators were working Thursday to determine what caused a fire that broke out in the popular Parker & Otis restaurant and store in the city’s redeveloped Brightleaf Tobacco district less than 12 hours after a two-alarm blaze destroyed The Hibernian Pub in Raleigh’s Glenwood South district.
The fire at Parker & Otis damaged a portion of one floor of the former industrial building at 112 S. Duke St., Acting Chief Dan Curia said.
It was reported at about 8 p.m.
Parker & Otis says on its website that it closed at 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve and planned to be closed through New Year’s Day.
The restaurant serves breakfast and lunch and sells “basic groceries, gourmet foods, cheese, wine and candy.” It also sells cookware and cookbooks.
The extent of smoke and water damage to the store had not been determined Thursday morning, Curia said.
