Matchup to Watch
Anthony Davis vs. Hakim Warrick: No. 1 overall pick Davis shows up for the only time this season. How does Warrick, or any other Bobcats big man, contain him?
Observations
• New Hornets owner Tom Benson wants to change his team’s name to the Pelicans, setting off widespread speculation whether the Hornets name might return to Charlotte.
• Davis and Bobcats small forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist led Kentucky to the 2012 national championship, then were chosen first and second overall in the NBA draft.
• Shooting guard Eric Gordon has been out continuously this season with a sore right knee.
Tap-ins
Hornets rookie Austin Rivers, who starred for Duke as a freshman, had a recent hot streak, averaging 14 points on 49 percent shooting over a five-game span.
• Another former Duke player, Lance Thomas, has been starting for the Hornets.
• Strange stat of the week: The Hornets shoot better in field-goal percentage, 3-point percentage and free-throw percentage on the road than at home this season.
Did you know?
Ex-Bobcat Matt Carroll was a Hornet, but only in the most technical sense. Carroll never actually reported to New Orleans after the November trade for Warrick, and the Hornets waived him within a few days.
