1-year-old shot in arm in Bessemer City

A one-year-old from Bessemer City was in the hospital Friday night, receiving treatment for a gunshot wound in his arm.

Gaston County EMS officials responded to the child’s home at 8:10 p.m. after receiving a call that the boy had been shot in the arm. EMS Capt. Chris Hendricks said the child was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition. Gaston County police are investigating the incident and are calling it an accident.

Officials said the child was at home with his father and an 8-year-old sibling when the shooting occurred. Other details about the circumstances of the shooting weren’t immediately available.
