Observations: New Orleans Hornets at Charlotte Bobcats

• It’s possible Saturday night’s game was the last featuring an NBA team nicknamed “Hornets” playing in Charlotte. New Orleans is expected to change its name by next season. Bobcats owner Michael Jordan has said he is open to changing his team’s name back to the Hornets, but unless progress is made on that front, the Hornets might have made their final appearance in Charlotte. It’s doubtful any other NBA franchise would consider using it.

• Probably not the sort of milestone Charlotte coach Mike Dunlap was waiting for, but the first-year coach picked up the first technical foul of his NBA career during the third quarter. Dunlap had not been pleased with some no-calls and appeared to be arguing that Hornets guard Roger Mason Jr. had stepped out of bounds before hitting a wide-open 3-pointer.

• Bobcats rookie Michael Kidd-Gilchrist got the better of his former Kentucky teammate, Anthony Davis. Kidd-Gilchrist finished with 22 points, nine rebounds, two blocked shots, an assist and a steal Saturday night. Davis finished with eight points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots. Davis was picked first in the 2012 NBA draft and Kidd-Gilchrist was second.
