Man dies in Anson house fire

Anson County authorities say a 72-year-old man died early Monday when fire destroyed his house.

The sheriff’s office says James McCray was killed in the blaze at a residence in the 6400 block of Robinson Bridge Road, in Morven, south of Wadesboro.

Investigators say the house was fully engulfed in flames when Morven firefighters arrived about 1:15 a.m. McCray lived alone and had limited mobility, the sheriff’s office says. His body was found near the back door of the residence.

Authorities say they believe the fire started in McCray’s bedroom, where at least one space heater was located. Sheriff Tommy Allen said a final determination on the cause of the fire is awaiting an autopsy and an analysis of evidence from the blaze.
