Kannapolis police: Child struck by vehicle

Kannapolis police say a 14-year-old girl was taken to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle early Wednesday.

The girl had missed the school bus on her street and was trying to catch it at another stop when she crossed Kannapolis Parkway into the pathway of a car, said Capt. Ken Jackson of the Kannapolis police department.

The collision occurred just before 6:40 a.m. on Kannapolis Parkway near the Afton Run intersection.

Jackson said the teen was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast for treatment of what he described as significant injuries. Her name has not been released.

Jackson said authorities do not anticipate filing charges in the case.
