Maybe its a bit superstitious, but I always like to try to begin my new year the way Id like the whole thing to go. So I woke up after sleeping in very late yesterday morning and spent the day relaxing and enjoying being at home with my fiancé and our dogs. We did a few chores around the house, enjoyed some party leftovers, and watched an evening movie together. I decided to end my day of restfulness with a nice bubble bath and then head to bed. It already sounded like a peaceful, planned new year.I believe I mentioned our new puppy, Mollie, a five month old rescue Labradinger we acquired in October. Shes become my shadow, following me around the house all day long. As I was enjoying my nice, relaxing, lavender-scented bubble bath, she stayed sleepily on the mat beside me. In a moment of reverie, as I sat engrossed in a book, over the edge came her black-and-white paws, and I found myself not only enjoying a nice hot relaxing bath, but sharing it with a wet and shocked puppy who had no idea what she was getting herself into. Unfortunately my camera wasnt close enough to grab and catch her face as she splashed in the tub, but I did manage to get this picture of my guilty-looking puppy with a few stray bubbles and her ever-present cone from last weekends spay surgery. So, despite my elaborate planning, it looks as if my new year is destined to bring lots of laughs and some surprises!Last year, I was eager to be done with 2011 and move on into 2012. We had a family health issues, financial struggles, and I had been drudging through full-time work alongside full-time grad school for two miserable years. I had hoped that 2012 would bring a much better year in our household. As I look back now at the past year, I realize that my hopes for 2012 could not have compared to what actually occurred. First the engagement, then my acceptance into the state principal fellows program, graduation with my first masters degree, leaving my previous job to pursue a new opportunity, a new job for Erik, a rowdy new canine addition to our family, this opportunity with Carolina Bride, and healthy and happy friends and family. All unexpectedly wonderful additions to our year.On top of all that, I managed to drop 20 pounds and a clothing size and maintain a new healthy lifestyle ALL year. I did over-indulge in my holiday season (as I always do) and have put on a few pounds in November and December. I'm not thrilled about the idea of hopping on the scale this week... but I'm gung-ho for January. While I don't plan on killing myself thin--- I do plan on cleansing for the next week in order to shake the holiday bloat. My pants are a little snug and I can see the extra water-weight and junk food on my face.As I enter 2013, I'm excited that this is the year of our wedding, and that I will get to see friends and family more than usual. I'm happy that my life is balanced and that I have made progress towards a better version of myself. I am eager to see what surprises 2013 may indeed have in store for our new family--- even if they involve a little unexpected escapade.Wishing you and yours an ADVENTUROUS new year full of things that are unexpectedly wonderful! Happy New Year!
