Matthews police investigate CVS robbery

Matthews police are investigating a robbery at 1:30 a.m. Thursday at the CVS on Pineville-Matthews Road.

Matthews police are looking for a man accused of robbing a CVS store early Thursday.

The robbery occurred around 1:30 a.m. at the CVS in the 1300 block of Matthews Township Parkway (N.C. 51). Authorities say a man walked into the store and took cash before running out of the business. No one was hurt, and the suspect did not have a weapon, police said.

A short time after the robbery, Matthews police spotted a vehicle similar in description to one that had left the scene of the robbery. A chase began and the suspect eventually crashed on Sardis Road near Sardis Pointe and fled on foot.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police’s K-9 unit assisted in trying to locate the suspect, but was unable to find him.

The suspect was described as a white male in his late 30s or early 40s, who was about 6-feet tall with a medium build and brown hair. The suspect was wearing a wearing a tan hat, white tennis shoes and blue jeans.
