Downtown Waxhaw hosts a family-friendly event the first Friday of every month. January’s event is a Fitness Crawl, where visitors can walk Waxhaw’s historic streets and see demonstrations of yoga, Zumba, cheerleading, cycling and more. Free carriage rides will be available.

Once a month at Lego Stores, kids ages 6-14 can build a small Lego creation and bring it home. This month’s project is an igloo with penguins.

Snug Harbor invites an act to be its monthly “Artist in Residence.” January’s artist is Elonzo. The shows are free, and various bands will open for Elonzo throughout the month.

All locations of Guitar Center are offering free workshops on recording music every Saturday morning. In January, the classes will teach Garage Band. Space is limited and you need to sign up in advance. Two locations in Charlotte: 8813 J.W. Clay Blvd., and 10050 E. Independence Blvd. in Matthews.
