The two indie bands (the former is a Pittsburgh trio, the latter Brooklyn-based) make unpolished punk with ample angst and recordings that serve to remind listeners what emo records sounded like before mall punk was mainstream.

Charlottes Carolina Gator Gumbo has cooked up Creole and Cajun music since the early 90s, while Asheville-based Jackomo is a newer Cajun country combo. Both have long traveled to learn the Louisiana tradition from its masters.
