Library events: The Concord branch library will host the following events. The Great Books Discussion Group will meet 6:30 p.m. Jan. 14 to discuss selections from “The City of God,” by St. Augustine. Registration is requested. The Teen Book Club will meet on 5:30 p.m. Jan. 15 to discuss “The Outcasts: Brotherband Chronicles,” by John Flanagan. Science Saturday will be 2 p.m. Jan. 19 for hands-on science experiments for ages 6-12. The nonprofits got their donations Dec. 29. Ross and Darlene Shotts have hosted the fundraiser for the last three years, and thousands of people visited the walk-thru spectacle. www.lights4paws.com.
Friends of the Library: The Concord Friends of the Library will host its annual winter meeting and volunteer recognition 1-2:30 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Concord branch library, 27 Union St. N. Television news anchor and author Rob Boisvert of Carolina News 14 will discuss his love of reading, his career as a freelance writer and his book.
