Friday's Observations: Cleveland Cavaliers 106, Charlotte Bobcats 104

• Tyrus Thomas (calf strain) played for the first time since mid-November. He hit a couple of early 19-footers, and if he can do that more than occasionally it will open up driving lanes for both him and teammates. Thomas came back a week or two ahead of the original two-month projection.

• Bobcats forward Byron Mullens is out of his protective walking boot two weeks after severely spraining his left ankle against the Denver Nuggets just before Christmas. No projection yet on when Mullens might return from that injury.

• Cleveland Cavaliers coach Byron Scott coached Bobcats backup point guard Ramon Sessions before Sessions left for the Los Angeles Lakers two seasons ago. Scott said pre-game he loved Sessions’ versatility and leadership skills. Veterans Sessions, Antawn Jamison and Anthony Parker held an otherwise young locker room together through a brutal losing streak.

• Bobcats play four of their next five on the road, where they’re 3-11 this season.
