Seven-time North Carolina Class AAAA state champion Piedmont flexed its muscles again and won the Border Wars Duals on Saturday at South Pointe High School.
Piedmont, the defending tournament champ, sealed the title and finished at 5-0 with a 37-34 win over Lugoff-Elgin in the finals of the nine-team tournament.
Locally, host South Pointe was third with a 39-39 win over Northwestern, Indian Land was eighth after a 43-34 loss to Weddington and Lewisville was ninth with a forfeit victory against Buford, which did not show up, in the finals round.
“We didn’t wrestler well and missed the championship match because of our earlier 36-34 loss to Lugoff,’’ South Pointe coach Eddie Cook said. “I don’t know what happened to Buford. They are usually good about showing up or letting you know if there is a problem.’’
Mooresville beat Cox Mill 55-21 in the other final round match and finished fifth.
Teams scheduled to wrestle Buford in the team advancement format were awarded a forfeit win.
