Two suspects were arrested Monday in a fatal shooting at about 4 p.m. at Farm Pond Lane and Albemarle Road in east Charlotte.

Police identified the victim late Monday as Monte Jarron Gay, 21.

Two 19-year-olds – Terrence Parker and Brenton Samuels – are charged with murder in Gay’s death. Officers arrested Parker at a motel on Independence Boulevard. Samuels was arrested in Mint Hill.

Police said they responded to an assault-with-a-deadly-weapon call at 3:59 p.m. and found Gay. Paramedics took the wounded man to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The homicide is the second killing Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have investigated this year, after a 24-year low in reported homicides in 2012.

The two suspects and the victim all had arrest records. Samuels, of Mint Hill, had been arrested at least five previous times, according to Mecklenburg County court records. Those include separate robbery with a dangerous weapon charges in October and November, along with a March 2012 arrest for robbery and assault.

Parker, of Charlotte, had at least three previous arrests -- each time, for breaking and entering. He also was charged in two of those cases with possession of stolen goods.

Gay, of Charlotte, had been arrested five times.
