Tuesday morning traffic update

Several wrecks, including a serious situation on Woodlawn Road, are causing problems for motorists at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday morning in the Charlotte region.

The Woodlawn Road wreck has closed the westbound lanes, and motorists should avoid that area. Medic has been sent to the scene, with three vehicles involved. Charlotte fire Capt. Rob Brisley says crews needed about 15 minutes to free a motorist trapped in the wreck.

Here is the summary at 7:40 a.m.

-- Providence Road inbound ... Congestion near Fairview Road; traffic averaging 20-25 mph in that area.

-- I-485 inner loop, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion; traffic moving 15-25 mph from Providence Road to South Boulevard.

-- I-85 southbound, Cabarrus County ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-30 mph from N.C. 73 down to I-485.

-- I-77 southbound, Lake Norman area ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-30 mph from the lake down to I-485.

-- Woodlawn Road westbound, near Park Road ... Three-vehicle crash reported about 7:15 a.m., including one overturned vehicle; it is a short distannce west of Park Road, and the westbound lanes are closed. Motorists should avoid the area until at least 8 a.m.

-- Harris Boulevard near IBM Drive ... Collision at 7 a.m.; minor delays.

-- Wilkinson Boulevard at Morris Field Drive ... Collision at 7 a.m.; minor delays.

-- Mallard Creek Road at W.T. Harris Boulevard ... Collision at 7:20 a.m.; minor delays.
