Smoke detector alerts family in east Charlotte fire

No serious injuries were reported early Tuesday when fire damaged a house near east Charlotte’s Shannon Park neighborhood.

The fire was reported shortly after midnight at a residence on Tyrone Drive, north of Shamrock Drive. Firefighters found smoke and flames when they arrived on the scene, according to reports.

Crews at the scene said a man living at the house was alerted to the fire by a smoke detector. The man was able to get six children and his wife out of the house safely.

Officials say the man suffered smoke inhalation but did not require hospitalization.

Investigators are working to determine a cause of the blaze.
