Suspect leads police on high-speed chase through Charlotte

Several police crews chased two vehicles through Cornelius and Charlotte on Tuesday afternoon during a drug investigation.

A high speed chase began around 12:50 p.m. after two cars left a house that Cornelius police were looking into related to a narcotics investigation.

A black Dodge Charger got onto Interstate 77 southbound and reached speeds of 110 miles per hour before officers lost sight of the car around 1 p.m.

A second car--a black BMW--turned onto Torrence Chapel Road but pulled over near Knox Road before officer deployed stop sticks. Two people were detained in that vehicle, but further details about the suspects is not available.

Officers stopped to take pictures of items that may have been thrown from the Charger at exit 28 near the I-77 southbound ramp.
