The hottest entry in last week’s workout play list contest came from Peggy Berger, of York, S.C., who delivered a high-energy, eclectic offering that spanned multiple musical genres.

You just gotta love a list that jumps from Flatt & Scruggs to Flo Rida, with current cuts and retro faves sprinkled in.

Berger, 65, the former human resources manager at the GM Saturn plant in Tennessee, moved here in 2010 to be closer to her kids and grandkids.

She “runs the pool” at the Dowd YMCA a couple of times a week, her iPod snug in a waterproof box. Other days she walks the neighborhood or uses the elliptical machine and bikes at the Y. She has lost 25 pounds and wants to lose another 50.

“A doctor got me motivated last summer by suggesting that regular exercise could go a long way toward preventing the need for a second knee replacement.” She has 100 songs on her list. See a cross section below.

She’ll be adding more, thanks to her prize, a $25 iTunes card. And make sure you check out the huge list compiled from other reader entries: charlotteobserver.com/health.
