A 26-year-old woman has been charged with shooting at random passing vehicles Wednesday evening in Mount Holly, police say.

No injuries were reported.

Ashley Nicole Hunsucker, of Stanley, was taken into custody about 7:15 p.m. after a motorist called 911 and reported that a woman wearing a dark-colored shirt was shooting at vehicles in the 600 block of Belmont-Mount Holly Road.

Mount Holly police Chief David James said officers arrived and found a woman near the corner of Belmont-Mount Holly Road and Beatty Drive, and James said the officers found a .380-caliber pistol in the woman’s possession. They also found two spent shell casings nearby.

A witness said the woman fired shots at two different vehicles.

James said Hunsucker was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, assault by pointing a gun, going armed to the terror of the people, and discharging a firearm in city limits.

She is being held at the Gaston County Jail under $5,000 bond. Police have not said what might have been the motive for the shooting.
