1 killed in Catawba wreck

One person died in a single-vehicle wreck early Thursday in northern Catawba County, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.

The wreck was discovered about 2 a.m. on Herman Sipe Road, north of Interstate 40. That is near the St. Stephens community.

Troopers say the driver of a car apparently lost control of the vehicle and went off the road. The car slammed into the tree, and the driver was killed. Troopers have not released the name of the victim.
