Gun rumor forces Hopewell lockdown

A report that someone might have brought a gun on campus forced a lockdown Thursday morning at Hopewell High School in Huntersville, according to police and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officials.

No weapon was found, authorities say.

Police say someone called them with the report of a gun on campus, and Hopewell High School Principal Michael Jones immediately ordered a lockdown at the school. Doors were locked, and students and staff were kept in classrooms during that time.

After a search from police yielded no weapon, the lockdown was ended about 10:20 a.m. It lasted about an hour.
