Bessemer City father charged after 18-year-old shot

A father has been charged after his 18-month-old child shot himself in the arm last month in Gaston County, police said.

Officials say the shooting happened around 8 p.m. Dec. 28 inside a home in Bessemer City on South Skyland Drive.

Father Tyvegas Deontee Goode is charged with improperly storing his firearm. The child’s injury was non-life threatening, authorities said after the incident.

Officials said the child was at home with his father and 8-year-old sibling when the shooting occurred.
