Looking for a place to park downtown?

If your business is with the Cabarrus County government, there is a new place to park. On the corner of Corban Avenue and McCachern Boulevard, with access from McCachern, is Cabarrus County Parking Lot No. 5.

On weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., parking is restricted to county government business including the government center, courthouse and Sheriff’s Office.

On weekdays after 5 p.m. and weekends the lot is open for general use.

Mike Wilder, of Harrisburg, had found out about the lot on his jury duty summons and said “It’s a good walk to the courthouse, but it is nice to have unencumbered parking.”

Others said they had come upon the lot by chance and thought it was nice.

With 17 regular spaces and four handicapped spots, the lot utilizes steps and a ramp to access the government buildings on Church Street and Corban Avenue.

The lot sits on the site previously occupied by the Cabarrus County Board of Elections and, best of all, there’s no charge.
