Providence

JCC Membership: The Levine Jewish Community Center, 5007 Providence Road, is eliminating joining fees through Jan. 31. Membership includes access to the fitness facility, more than 60 group exercise and 15 water aerobics classes weekly, 11 lighted tennis courts, an indoor and outdoor running track, an indoor pool and outdoor aquatic complex and discounts on camp, youth sports and swim lessons, www.charlottejcc.org or 704-944-6741. There is a $25 processing fee; families pay $103.50 monthly, individuals, $72.


Piper Glen

Child center: Calvary Child Development Center, 5801 Pineville-Matthews Road, will begin open enrollment Feb. 4 for the fall 2013 school year. Registration and information is online, www.calvarycdc.com. Applications are also available at the center. Tours are conducted daily between 10 a.m. and noon, 704- 341-5631.

Children’s art: The McDowell Arts Center, 100 E. McDowell St., is offering KidzArt Drawing Classes for grades K-5. Children can join the class at a pro-rated fee at any time. The program from 3 to 4 p.m. or 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. runs Jan. 31 through May 30, as well as from 10 to 11 a.m. Jan. 12 through May 4, 704-321-7275 or www.kidzartcharlotte.com.


Charlotte

Scholarship available: Applications are being accepted for the $2,000 Kasie Capling Memorial Scholarship. The award goes annually to a high school student who is a rising college freshman accepted as a science, information technology, engineering, or math (STEM) major at an accredited college or university for the fall 2013 semester. The applicant’s grade point average must be a minimum of 3.0.The application is online at www.it-ology.org and is due March 15.


Ballantyne

Blood drive: South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church, 8601 Bryant Farms Road, will hold an American Red Cross Blood Drive for church members and the public from 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Jan. 19. The blood drive will be at Mecklenburg Hall, and is open to anyone age 17 or older, 16-year-olds can participate with parental consent. Appointments are welcome but walk-ins will be accepted.
