Matthews Children’s art: The McDowell Arts Center, 100 E. McDowell St., is offering KidzArt Drawing Classes for grades K-5. Children can join the class at a pro-rated fee at any time. Charlotte Scholarship available: Applications are being accepted for the $2,000 Kasie Capling Memorial Scholarship. The award goes annually to a high school student who is a rising college freshman accepted as a science, information technology, engineering, or math (STEM) major at an accredited college or university for the fall 2013 semester. The applicant’s grade point average must be a minimum of 3.0.The application is online at www.it-ology.org and is due March 15.
Ballantyne Blood drive: South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church, 8601 Bryant Farms Road, will hold an American Red Cross Blood Drive for church members and the public from 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Jan. 19. The blood drive will be at Mecklenburg Hall, and is open to anyone age 17 or older, 16-year-olds can participate with parental consent. Appointments are welcome but walk-ins will be accepted.
