Traffic is a mess across the Charlotte region at 8:30 a.m., with numerous collisions -- including a pedestrian fatality on Interstate 85 -- and heavy congestion.
The problems are widespread. Motorists should expect slowdowns in many places this morning.

-- I-85 southbound, west Charlotte ... Pedestrian struck and killed, between the Billy Graham Parkway and Little Rock Road; left two lanes closed; traffic moving 5-15 mph from Beatties Ford Road to Little Rock Road. Motorists should consider finding an alternate route.
-- I-77 northbound, south Charlotte ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-30 mph from Carowinds Boulevard to Woodlawn Road.
-- I-77 southbound, near central Charlotte ... Collision reported about 8:25 a.m. near West Boulevard, blocking the left lane; moderate delays.
-- U.S. 321 northbound, Gaston County ... Congestion; traffic moving 20-30 mph from I-85 up to Dallas.
-- I-485 inner and outer loops, south Mecklenburg ... Congestion on both sides; traffic moving 15-30 mph on outer loop, from I-77 to Johnston Road; traffic moving 10-20 mph on inner loop, from Providence Road to South Boulevard.
-- South Sharon Amity Road at Clover Road ... Collision at 8:25 a.m.; minor delays.
-- Steele Creek Road at Brown Grier Road ... Collision at 8:10 a.m.; minor delays.
-- Providence Road at N.C. 51, Arboretum area ... Collision at 8:15 a.m.; minor delays.
-- McKee Road at Kuykendall Road, southeast Charlotte ... Collision at 8:05 a.m.; minor delays.
-- West Boulevard at Billy Graham Parkway ... Collision at 8:10 a.m.; minor to moderate delays.
